Frequently asked questions

Do I have to audition?

You do not audition for the DMMS Choir program. Instead, you meet with Ms. Taylor and, based on your musical history, will be placed in the choir that seems the best fit for you.

What are the choir levels?

Chorale is a semester-long beginner choir. Students in Chorale are automatically tracked to join Concert Choir or Chamber Choir if they choose that path. Concert Choir is an intermediate chorus of students that want a more relaxed learning environment. Concert Choir students are ready to commit to a program with exceptional quality performances.
Chamber Choir is an advanced chorus of students with excellent musicianship skills. They have the most events and field trips.

How do I sign up?

Please go to the Interest Form on this website, where you can fill out your information. You will be contacted by Ms. Taylor through email.

I'm Nervous!

I'm so bad at singing! Will I hate choir?

There is no such thing as "bad" or "good" when it comes to singing - it's just a skill that you practice, like tying your shoes or driving a car. Choir is for everyone and about pushing yourself to the limit of ability. No matter where you start out as a singer, you will end up much better by the end of your year with us, guaranteed. We don't just sing in choir. We learn to read music, hear about music history, and listen to music you have probably never heard before.

I'm still nervous about choir. What do I do?

If you're nervous, talk to Ms. Taylor and she will connect you with another student who is already in the program. They will guide you through your nerves!

Fun Stuff

Do we go to amusement parks?

Yes! We have annual field trips (to Knotts and Disneyland).

Are there other field trips?

We get the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the Angels Baseball Stadium (when invited) during games. Additionally, we sing at Field of Honor annually to honor our Veterans. We have also gone Christmas Caroling in December and also sing for other Middle Schools at choir festivals. In order to join in on the fun, excellent work ethic and dedication to all of your studies are required.
